"Colorado Dentist Takes the Pain Out of Expansion"

I had been working for eighteen years to build my dental practice and still I seemed to be in dire financial straits from month to month," says Dr. Tony Casanova of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. "I wanted to increase the profitability and the efficiency of the practice, and I just knew things could be better.

"Then I talked to one of the consultants at Sterling and he sent me a video. It made so much sense to me – that here was someone who knows what is going on and that I should find out what's going on too.

"Besides the fact that the video made so much sense," says Dr. Casanova, "there were the half dozen Sterling clients I talked to about their experiences. I thought, if someone else can do it, so can I.

"And when I got to Sterling headquarters in Glendale, California, that impression was even stronger because the program they teach just makes so much sense. That is partly because of the excellent technology of learning they apply. They ensured that I really understood the material; they never assumed that what they were saying was what I was understanding.

"And that was important because all the material they were teaching was useable. I really liked the crispness of it, the lack of extraneous 'PR,' or 'snow,' or whatever you would call it.

"One thing I learned was that although I am a doctor, I don't know how to read and write so well. Frankly, it was amazing that I'd lived this long and not been able to do it that well. Some of what I learned was about the personal relationship side of things. And as a doctor it was good to learn more about myself.

"I'll tell you what part of the management tech I applied first, though. I applied the tech about how I do own this practice and I have a right to request certain things of the people who are working for me. If they do not provide what I need and want, then they are not in fact working for me.

"So I just hired someone who will do a whole lot more for this practice.

"I came back from Sterling with more certainty and more self-confidence. If someone simply will not produce, the person has just told me in a much louder voice, that they do not want to work.

"All this has made the production go up," says Casanova, "and I know it will go up next week and so on.

"Sterling has trained me up so I am paying a lot more attention in terms of the statistics I am tracking and to what is going on in the office.

"I'd recommend it to any dentist who wanted his practice to run more smoothly and more profitably, and was willing to take the necessary steps to do something about it."
